Warriors Capture another State Golf Championship

The Warrior Boys Golfers are State Champions again! Warriors fought temperatures in the 30s, wind gusts in excess of 40 mph and a very challenging Tournament Club of Iowa course for two days to win the 2019 Class 4A State Golf Championship. The Warriors defeated CIML Iowa Conference rival West Des Moines Valley by one stroke and another CIML member Southeast Polk by five strokes.

Warriors got off to fast start leading after the first day of competition by 7 strokes and held on Saturday for the victory. Matthew O’Brien and Jack Starr led the Warriors finishing 10th and 11th individually. Josh Nichols and Charlie Andrews were the other scoring golfers for Waukee High School, placing 17th and 35th respectively. Jack Utsler and Charlie Steer rounded out the varsity team placing 47th and 54th.

The 2019 championship made it back-to-back championships for Warriors in boys golf and was the program’s sixth title in the last nine years. Remarkably, the Warriors have now won a combined 10 state team championships in boys and girls golf in addition to four State Co-Ed titles, all since 2010.
